The debacle year of 2020 is finally passed. We have all fought through the discord, trials and tribulations that year brought us.

We have learned through sources that former Gator receiver and assistant receiver coach Aubrey Hill has passed away. Sources tell us that Hill was battling an illness but that he kept things to himself about it. He was 48 years old when he passed.

Hill’s freshman season coincided with the Gators first official SEC Championship in 1991. He also won an SEC Championship in 1993 and 1994.

I his time on campus Hill developed a reputation as a team leader and clutch receiver. Forty of his first 53 receptions gave the Gators a first down. He ended his career with 86 career receptions and 18 touchdowns. The 4.78 reception/touchdown ratio still was the second-best in school history behind only Wes Chandler (4.18) at the time.

According to the FBI, the incredible acts of heroism by the NASCC Military Policewoman guarding entrance to the base, saved many lives yesterday. The active duty U.S. Navy military police woman at the Ocean Drive gate has probably checked thousands of IDs and allowed access to thousands of authorized people at NAS Corpus Christi.

But yesterday morning, at barely the first light of day, a terrorist tried to get past her. That terrorist, Adam Salem Alsahli (a Syrian born U.S. citizen), picked the wrong gate guard to try to get past. He must’ve thought that all he would have to do is lift the pistol off of his lap, point it at the gate guard (while she looked him in the face) shoot her point-blank in the chest and then be able to drive on to the base and use his assault rifle and shotgun to kill as many people as he could.

He sure was wrong!

She took the bullet dead center in her chest, but that happens to be the area of the bullet-resistant Kevlar vest, which has a steel, ceramic-coated plate over center mass to protect the heart and vital organs.

Yes, no doubt the impact knocked her down to the floor, but she got right back up and hit the emergency button that activated a very strong pop up barricade, which stopped and disabled the terrorist’s vehicle. Then, as he was getting his assault rifle out of his car, she shot him to death.

He was connected to Jihadist groups in the Middle East and May have acted yesterday, in response to the FBI’s announcement on Monday in regard to the terrorist attack back some months ago at NAS Pensacola, which like NASCC, is a major training base for military pilots.

FBI credits the NAS MP, who stopped the Terrorist from mass murder on Naval Air Station CC. For her heroic, life saving actions, that U.S. Navy Military Policewoman should get not only the Purple Heart, but also the highest military accommodation that can be applied to this case of domestic terrorism.

The annual National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Candlelight Vigil will take place virtually this year due to the COVID-19 public health crisis. For over 30 years, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has held a Candlelight Vigil to honor those who have died in the line of duty. This year, the names of fallen U.S. law enforcement officers will be formally dedicated on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial during a virtual Candlelight Vigil on:

Wednesday, May 13 at 8 p.m. ET.

The vigil will be broadcast via Verizon Media’s BUILD by Yahoo series and on its social platforms Facebook and Twitter, @VZUpToSpeed, as well as on LawMemorial.org and the Memorials YouTube , Facebook, and Twitter platforms.

The virtual broadcast will replace the traditional Candlelight Vigil ceremony held on the National Mall, which draws more than 30,000 first responders, surviving families, and law enforcement supporters annually. The 2020 ceremony will include special remarks by more than 50 guests, including the Honorable Chad Wolf, Acting Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; the Honorable Steny Hoyer, Majority Leader, U.S. House of Representatives; Dermot Shea, New York Police Commissioner; Cerelyn J. Davis, National President, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives; Patrick Yoes, National President, Fraternal Order of Police; Tom Selleck, Joe Mantegna, and John Walsh, and the chief executives of some of the nation’s Fortune 500 corporations, all paying tribute to the fallen U.S. law enforcement officers.

During the virtual Candlelight Vigil, the names of each of the 307 men and women that will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial this year will be read aloud in memory of their sacrifice. Those tuning into the vigil can also visit a web app to view the full list of fallen officers, with their name, rank and photo.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women deployed to keep us safe.  These unselfish peacekeepers are our finest. God bless them and comfort their families.
