For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Special Tropical Weather Outlook issued to update the status of the
reconnaissance mission originally scheduled for the system near the
Straits of Florida and to increase the formation chances for the
system in the tropical Atlantic.

Updated: A tropical wave is producing a large area of disorganized
showers and thunderstorms over western Cuba, the northwestern

waters. Gradual development of this system is possible while it
moves west-northwestward during the next few days. This system is
expected to move over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico later today,
the central Gulf on Wednesday, and the northwestern Gulf on
Thursday and Friday. The Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter

S.I. names Preseason Coach of the Year

🐊 Congrats to Coach Dan Mullen 🐊

Entering—well, as scheduled, at least—a 2020 season with top talent seeping out of the west of the Southeastern Conference, perhaps this could be considered a surprise considering the usual suspects: Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen has been voted the SEC Preseason Head Coach of the Year by the team of Sports Illustrated SEC publishers.
Mullen, entering his third year as Florida’s head coach, has punched back-to-back tickets to New Year’s Six Bowl games, defeating Michigan in the 2018 Peach Bowl and Virginia in the 2019 Orange Bowl. Coming after two head coach firings by Florida in the three years prior to the Mullen era, his first two seasons on the job marked quite the turnaround.
Now, the expectations are rising even higher. Should there be a 2020 season, the Gators are in a position to take the reigns in the SEC East.

Congrats to Kyle Trask

Florida quarterback Kyle Trask picked up another preseason accolade Tuesday, earning a spot on the watch list for the 2020 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
Trask also garnered first-team All-SEC picks by Street & Smith’s and College Football News, which ranked him No. 16 on its list of the top 30 CFB players entering the 2020 season. UF’s signal caller is ranked a top 15 preseason QB by Lindy’s Sports (No. 14) and Athlon Sports (No. 15).

Coach Mullen has new assistant.

Former Syracuse and UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni has a new landing spot in college football. Pasqualoni is expected to take an off-field role at the University of Florida as the special assistant to the head coach, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.
Pasqualoni is a longtime defensive guru who last worked in the NFL as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. He’ll be working with the offense at Florida in a role where he helps the offensive staff break down defenses and also helping head coach Dan Mullen evaluate the program from a macro view.
It’s the third consecutive role for Pasqualoni that links him with coaches he hired during his successful tenure at Syracuse from 1991-2004 when he went 107-59-1. Mullen was a graduate assistant for Pasqualoni in 1998.
Lions coach Matt Patricia and former Boston College coach Steve Addazio, who both hired Pasqualoni at his past two coaching stops, also worked for him at Syracuse.
Pasqualoni, 70, is a football lifer and known as an elite teacher and X’s and O’s savant. He was an acclaimed defensive line coach in the NFL for many years, including stints with the Cowboys, Bears and Texans.

🐊 Tre Mann returns 🏀

The Florida Gators basketball team received good news on Tuesday afternoon when reports surfaced that sophomore guard Tre Mann will withdraw his name from the 2020 NBA Draft and return to school.
“I want to thank my family, our coaching staff and my teammates for their support throughout this process,” Mann said. “I’m excited to come back to UF to continue growing as a player and a person and to play in front of our Florida fans and the Rowdy Reptiles again!”

Springs County Petition

For those of us living on the west side of Alachua County, the concept of carving out anew County has been debated for some time. Interest seems to be increasing, especially with the home rule limitation being being proposed in the Alachua County charter revisions.

If you are interested in voicing support for more discussion and consideration of this initiative, Commissioner Tim Marden has developed an online petition. It is available at the   Springs County petition.
